Philippians: Obedience

Obedience…not a popular topic in today’s culture. So, why do we struggle with obedience and what does Biblical obedience look like? Pastor Kirk navigates these 2 questions in this sermon.

Pastor Kirk takes a look at the difference between pride and humility and the impact that both of these characteristics can have on our relationships.
Pastor Kirk discusses the resurrection of Jesus and the effects that this event has had on humanity. It sets Jesus and Christianity apart from all other religions and worldviews, it releases future Kingdom and power now, and it gives us power over death!
During this Palm Sunday message, Pastor Kirk asks the question, “Who is Jesus to you?” Is He a celebrity you are a fan of, or is He the king you are serving?
As a follow-up to last week’s sermon on unity, Pastor Kirk takes a look at the kind of relationships we are to have as followers of Jesus. The “recipe” from scripture instructs us to walk in humility, value others more than ourselves, look to the interests of others, and to have the mindset of Jesus.
Paul’s plea to the Philippian church in chapter 2 is a similar plea that we think he would make to our churches today: to live and walk in unity.
Pastor Kirk finishes out Philippians chapter 1 with an in-depth look at suffering and the role that it is meant to play in our lives as Christians.
In Philippians, Paul reminds us that through Christ’s death and resurrection we have been declared to be “citizens of Heaven”. Upon this declaration, Paul issues a challenge to us to live lives that are worthy of such a distinction.
Death can be a difficult topic for discussion at any stage of life. In Philippians, Paul felt the need to remind early believers and us what death actually means. He knew that having the right view on death would give them the right perspective on how to live life. Listen and respond to God’s call to live for Christ!
In our desire to see Jesus exalted in our lives, we have to realize that our emotions are not accurate guides for navigating our circumstances. Like Paul, we have the power to choose to rejoice no matter what we are feeling or experiencing.
